Stuff to Do: Week of April 28

The Big One is turning out for May Day!!! Here in Houston, this means showing up at City Hall, 901 Bagby from 4 to 7 CDT. Bring loved ones, signs, and your fire for justice and to waken from our national nightmare. I’ll say it again, protests and rallies are important for the numbers they show, for the enthusiasm they generate, but they’re only part of the process. Plan on meeting organizers and others who you can volunteer for and work with. Memes in the time of Trump: April 2025

  Memes are, depending on how you want to look at them, the pithiest form of journalism, the laziest form of journalism, acute commentary, not so cute commentary, dumb. Memes are graffiti with more legible font and not necessarily as exciting graphics. Memes are all of these things and perhaps less. Naw, memes are, at their best, pretty good snapshots of issues and the times in which they happen. One thing is for sure; the past three months have provided an ongoing meme-fest. I’ve been stockpiling memes I’ve come across on social media, principally Bluesky and Facebook, and loading them to my Google Drive. I had a vague notion to start a wholly different standalone gallery, of sorts, but decided I don’t want to maintain a third platform. My happy medium is to post a few (or a lot) here once a month.
