Yesterday’s Fighting the Trump Takeover/Redistricting Resistance turned out differently from what I expected but in a good way

Black Voters Matter speakers at the Wyndham Houston, August 16, 2025. I was planning on attending a rally earlier in the week at the SHAPE Center on Almeda off Wheeler in Houston. I envisioned a significant crowd of people chanting, rallying and marching. Then, checking back online to verify links, I found the venue had changed to the Wyndham Houston near NRG stadium and to a conference room, at that. The sponsors were listed as Black Voters Matter which seemed to have switched, as well, but my thinking was that even if the rally out on Almeda was cancelled, I owed it to myself to check out this new development. The schedule had changed from 2 to 4 in the afternoon to 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Again, I figured this must be okay; likely a good couple of hours of speakers and ideas for moving forward. Unfortunately, I was running late, almost by an hour, and arrived at the venue around ten till noon.  I was given a swag bag and once inside the conference room, realized this was a good bit sm...

Stuff to Do 8/14-8/20: Emergency Edition!

Okay, let’s be clear that Texas is Ground Zero for the sleaziest but what might be most effective power grab by the Trump Regime. They’re not even trying to be subtle about stealing the mid-terms (or any election, really). Indivisible has risen to the challenge with rallies, letter writing campaigns, public statements, and more, not just for Texas and other red states on the Regime’s Wish List, but for how to support other states in counter-redistricting.  We hear a lot from the MAGA people and the conservatives who support them about “state’s rights”, but when their führer wants something done, they conveniently fall in line, brown shirts and all. I cannot do better to underscore the urgency of all this than Indivisible’s post “The Redistricting Coup is Underway”; I cannot recommend reading this enough to emphasize how critical this action by the Regime is and how vital it is that we all fight back. Not a meme, but a nice chalk drawing of Elmo at the Houston Good Trouble/remembrance day of Senator John Lewis. Photo: John Barrett  Okay, we're now in the eighth month of an antidemocratic, fascist Regime. The masks are almost completely off except for ICE agents, but if there has been any doubt that we're in the grip of a despotic Reich, that should be expunged now. Memes are not unlike graffitti. They convey popular sentiment through pithy phrasing and very often, weighty insight in economic to terse language, very often bound with imagery conveying the urgency of the text. As usual, what follows is a collection of memes I've saved up since the last post and the problem for me is that so much news happens and so many people respond that those monthly collections grow ever more quickly.  This may mean for a lot of scrolling, but I think you'll find a lot of thought-provoking memecraft among the scroll. I don't own any of the memes, their imagery, or content, and t...
