Stuff to Do: May Day edition

May Day Strong National Day of Action

It’s the easiest protest and were we to continue with it, it would likely be the most effective.

It’s simple. Friday, May the First; NO WORK, NO SCHOOL, NO SHOPPING. 

Maybe the “no work” isn’t viable for all, but no school seems a better bet, and what should be the easiest- no shopping- we can all do. Starve the beast! Just for one day. Just for one day, don’t buy a goddamn thing. You need groceries? You’ve got through Thursday? Medicine? Same. What do you do instead? Go for a walk, read a book, talk to your neighbors. Just don’t feed the upward-wealth economy.

If we were a more courageous society, a general strike would already be in effect, every day. If most - not even everyone- just quit buying bullshit, that alone would grind a significant part of the market to a halt. Not showing up to work? AI can’t replace everybody yet. If blue and white collar workers just refused to go into work, every day, the disruption would cause an immediate stoppage of profits to the oligarchs. 

Of course, some people work in sectors of life and death. Doctors, firefighters, even police in some degree. To be sure, we could still buy necessities. But buy locally sourced foods and locally made goods. Need tech? Buy refurbished. What if we just quit playing by their rules?

What if local economies remained local? Yes, yes, we have an interdependent flow of supply chains for getting goods to market, some are even necessary. But what if only the necessities were moved across the interstates? What if fuel and industrial materials were all that were transferred from factory or well to refinery to market?

There’s no utopia here, but an opportunity to show the oligarchs and their political puppets that we the people have the power. 

My Friday plans are to stay close to home, go for a walk, get some reading done. Not shopping is not a hardship for me and I’m retired, so I’m out of the market that way, too.

I may head to a rally. There are several in my area.

No Kings Day is coming! Let’s turn out and let’s be safe!

I know many of us are stoked to show up, raise our voices, and fight the good fight against authoritarianism and this tin-pot wannabe dictator and his clown car cabal. However, with additional issues in some states (like this one), there may be increased military presence, more law enforcement on the ground (uniformed and plain clothed) and perhaps, individuals and groups who might try to disrupt peaceful assemblies. What's ahead for protesters in the coming months? Planning ahead for pushback from the State, part 1

Source: unknown   Ahead of larger protests and more people taking to the streets, it might be worthwhile to be aware of what the regime is attempting to do now to breach the right to peaceful assembly and silence voices. We aren’t at the point where the military is turned on crowds, but be aware that is a big part of the authoritarians playbook.  First, there will be draconian legislative measures. As you may assume, many such measures are before different legislatures in conservative states. Concurrently, the federal government is considering several ways to make protesting illegal.
