From my in-box
I spend a good bit of time trying to cull and curate the general mass of information and goads to action I receive. My assumption is that at least something may be useful and maybe jumpstart engagement or re-energize flagging enthusiasm.
Rather than try to polish this, because I am working on a couple of more demanding pieces, I’m sharing these nuggets from my in-box. Some of it is more geared to Texas and Harris County, but there are also more general topics under discussion here. Take what you need and share accordingly.
I’ll lead with what I think requires the most attention statewide.
I’m not at all surprised that the sobriquet “State Railroad Commissioner” hasn’t been changed; it sounds old-timey and anodyne, but make no mistake. The position is the key to Texas’ direction in energy policy and implementation. The agency has not regulated railroads since 2005.

I can’t make this live, but maybe you can! (A link will be sent of the webinar recording to registrants, so you can sign up and still benefit.)
Hosted by the Ellsberg Initiative for Peace and Democracy, this book talk features journalist and author David Daley in conversation about his book Antidemocratic: Inside the Far Right's 50-Year Plot to Control American Elections. Daley traces the decades-long strategy behind voter suppression, gerrymandering, and court capture—and examines how these coordinated efforts threaten democratic governance in the United States today.

As a member, I can’t recommend our meetings enough. ROADwomen hosts local incumbents and introduces candidates, and these forums are a great way to meet others in the command find out what else is going on and what else you can get involved with.
ROADwomen's February 17, 2026, meeting will feature Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 2, Adrian Garcia. He will talk about Commissioners Court's 2025 successes and its goals and challenges in 2026.
Commissioner Adrian Garcia was born and raised in Precinct 2, granting him firsthand knowledge of the district’s needs as both a resident and a public servant. His public service journey began as a police officer in the Houston Police Department. He was elected to Houston City Council, and subsequently served as Harris County Sheriff.
