Stuff to Do 8/14-8/20: Emergency Edition!

  Okay, let’s be clear that Texas is Ground Zero for the sleaziest but what might be most effective power grab by the Trump Regime. They’re not even trying to be subtle about stealing the mid-terms (or any election, really). Indivisible has risen to the challenge with rallies, letter writing campaigns, public statements, and more, not just for Texas and other red states on the Regime’s Wish List, but for how to support other states in counter-redistricting.  We hear a lot from the MAGA people and the conservatives who support them about “state’s rights”, but when their führer wants something done, they conveniently fall in line, brown shirts and all. I cannot do better to underscore the urgency of all this than Indivisible’s post “The Redistricting Coup is Underway”; I cannot recommend reading this enough to emphasize how critical this action by the Regime is and how vital it is that we all fight back. “On Tyranny” - Chapter 3: “Beware the one-party state”

A long while ago, I posited the thought-game of what would a no-party electorate and government look like? How would it work? What if, instead of loyalty to party, people were actually encouraged to have to study a situation and determine who was right for the position by a series of rounds. Out of a pack of a couple of dozen people, all vetted based on background and what they had actually done in life and emphatically not on what they say they will do, the field gets winnowed down to a few and so on, until there is one person left who the majority has found to be best suited for the office. It would be time-consuming and people would have to do their homework. Other rules would require that any campaigning would be done live and the same budget would be allotted to each prospective candidate; and it would not be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
